Negril, Jamacia

Negril, Jamacia

Looking for a luxurious tropical vacation in Negril, Jamaica? Look no further than the Royalton Negril resort. With its prime beachfront location and all-inclusive amenities, including multiple dining options, a spa, and water sports, this resort promises a memorable experience for travelers of all ages. My wife and I spent five nights at this resort, and in this review, we will take a closer look at what makes the Royalton Negril a top choice for a Caribbean getaway.

The Royalton Negril is a modern resort on a beautiful beachfront in Negril, Jamaica. The property is surrounded by lush, tropical gardens, and features multiple buildings, including a main building and several low-rise buildings that house guest rooms and suites. It is a large property with three sections: Royalton, Hideaway, and Diamond Club.

The Hideaway is the adults-only side of the resort while the main Royalton and Diamond Club sections are family-friendly.

This is an All-Inclusive resort where you will find a variety of amenities and activities, including multiple restaurants and bars, a spa and fitness center, a splash park, and several swimming pools. There are also outdoor activities, such as non-motorized water sports, beach volleyball, and tennis. The resort also offers entertainment and nightlife options, including live music, performances, and theme parties.

The guest rooms are spacious with modern decorations and furnishings. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom had a very large shower with rain shower heads as well as a handheld showerhead attachment. It also featured A/C, a ceiling fan, and a very nice 50-inch flat-screen TV. Wi-Fi is available all over the resort but in my experience, it was slow and spotty. The Wi-Fi is usable but not reliable.

Below is a video tour of the property:

The Royalton Negril resort offers a total of 10 restaurants and cafes for guests to choose from. These include Hunters Steakhouse, Zen Asian Cuisine, Gourmet Marche (Buffet restaurant), and the Jerk Hut, amount others. There is also a food truck onsite!

We didn’t visit every restaurant, but I would say that the quality of the food is on par with other all-inclusive resorts. If you have ever been to an all-inclusive, you know that the food can be hit or miss.

Some dishes/meals will be excellent, and others will be meh. The Jerk Hut was located at the main pool and is a self-serve mini buffet. It offers traditional Jamaican food such as jerk chicken, jerk pork, and rice and peas and is open for lunch.

The only restaurant that required a reservation was Zen Asian Cuisine, which is a Japanese hibachi-style restaurant. The other restaurants were first come first serve, however, if you upgrade to a butler room, you can get your butler to make reservations at the other restaurants as well. I would recommend getting to the restaurants early to get a seat.

If you enjoy adult beverages, you will be happy to know that the resort also has several bars, including the lobby bar, a swim-up bar at the main pool, and the Hideaway pool, beach bar, and Diamond Club bar. You won’t have to go very far to find a good drink. The quality of the drinks was on par with other all-inclusive resorts that we have visited.

If you are not an extremely critical person, I believe that you will find the food and drinks at this resort enjoyable.

The resort provides activities throughout the day such as beach volleyball, yoga, and pool games. There are nightly shows in the theater featuring a Bob Marley Tribute show, a Michael Jackson show, a Jamaican show, and others. The quality of the shows is on par with other resorts, and we found the one that we watched enjoyable. They also have an all-white party and a beach party for the Hideaway guests. If you are interested in going off the resort, they have staff at the resort that can help you book an excursion. While staying in Negril, I highly recommend Rick’s Café. Arrive there in the late afternoon just before sunset to experience a great party vibe with some amazing views!

The staff at this resort was top-notch!

Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Being a Bonvoy Platinum elite member, we were given access to the Diamond Club beach and pool area and a direct connection with the staff. We communicated with the staff via WhatsApp, and it was like we had our own personal concierge or butler. They were very responsive and accommodated our every request. Chad was great and super helpful! If you are not a Marriott Bonvoy member, I highly recommend signing up, it’s free! Tips were not required but appreciated and I never experienced a different level of service whether I tipped or not. The staff here is a huge asset for this property.

Airport transfers:   This resort is a 1.5-2-hour drive from the airport in Montego Bay.  We arranged a private transfer from the airport to the hotel prior to arriving and everything went smoothly. The roads are narrow and there is no actual interstate like we are used to in the US. You will get to see a few scenic locations but overall be prepared for a long boring drive.

Club Mobay: Club Mobay gives you the ability to zip through the immigration process when arriving in Montego Bay. You get a personal escort that meets you when you get off the plane and escortS you through immigration and customs. You get access to a lounge where you can take a rum punch while your escort gets your transportation ready for you. When leaving Jamaica, you get access to the shorter security line and the Mobay Lounge equipped with drinks and snacks. There is a fee for this but the price is well worth it!

Excursions: Negril is far from a lot of the main tourist attractions. We did the Appleton Rum tour which took us to the Black River Safari and the YS Falls.  The excursion was a full day, and it took about 2.5 hours to return from the Appleton Estate (the last stop) to the resort. The Seven Mile beach and Rick’s Café are both near the resort (about a 20 min drive). Be prepared to spend a full day for most excursions that are offered.

Overall, we had a wonderful, relaxing time at the Royalton Hideaway. I would recommend it to anyone considering this resort as a destination, just be aware of where it is located on the island and how far it is from many of the attractions in Jamaica. If you are traveling as a couple, group, or a family with kids, I am sure you will enjoy the beautiful views and top-notch service that they office at this resort.
