Frida’s Restaurant Bar
If Cozumel, Mexico is one of your ports while cruising, you will definitely want to take a trip to Frida’s Restaurant and Bar for some great authentic Mexican food. Frida’s is located just a stone’s throw away from the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea and right at the city center. The restaurant’s open-air design lets you dine while enjoying the gentle sea breeze. On those extremely hot days they will bring out the oscillating fans to ensure their customers are cool and comfortable. Frida’s is very friendly and welcoming. When visiting make sure you ask for Humberto, he provides top notch service. Another great thing about Frida’s is the free Wi-Fi. Frida’s was only a 3 mile walk from the port, or a quick taxicab ride. It’s located in a great place for souvenir shopping; make sure you negotiate the price while shopping for souvenirs.
The Cuisine:
Frida’s specializes in authentic Mexican cuisine, with a contemporary twist. My favorite dishes at Frida’s were the shrimp nachos, and chicken tacos. The old saying about less is more rings true about authentic tacos in Mexico. These tacos are nothing like what you get at the chain taco stores in the U.S. The tacos here are very basic, meat in a soft tortilla shell. Tacos al Pastor is definitely a great choice. Although very basic it is packed with so much flavor, marinated pork and pineapple. Less is definitely more when it comes to a great tasting taco. The succulent shrimp placed atop my nachos had me salivating for more. The shrimp were plump and plentiful.
The Vibe:
Frida’s is a whole vibe. You could literally sit there for hours people watching and enjoying the live entertainment as local musicians come by and serenade your table with various songs. One song you know you will hear for sure is “La Bamba.”
A visit to Frida’s Restaurant is not just a meal; it’s a cultural and culinary experience. With a unique blend of flavors, artistic ambiance, and views, it’s a must-visit place to grab a bite to eat while exploring Cozumel, Mexico.
