Santorini, Greece

Santorini, Greece

Santorini, Greece is the most beautiful and romantic place I have ever visited. You have perhaps seen the beautiful pictures of Santorini with the white churches and blue domes, but no picture can capture the essence of the beauty this place has to offer. I felt like I saw a glimpse of heaven during my stay in Santorini.

Santorini has 3 main towns that tourist normally stay in when visiting; Oia, Fira, and Imerovigli. Each town is beautiful and has it’s own little personality. Imerovigli is more of a romantic town; quiet, and perfect for couples celebrating a honeymoon, anniversary, or baecation. Oia is the town that is most/heavily populated with tourist, because it is known for the beautiful sunsets; although the sunsets are a beautiful view from each one of the 3 towns. Fira is mostly known as the party town.

Where to Stay and Play

We chose to stay in Imerovigli, because it was our 25th wedding anniversary. I was very pleased with our choice. We did not have to fight the crowds to watch the sunset like others in Oia and Fira. Each night my husband and I spent a romantic evening by the pool, just the two of us watching the sunset.

Our hotel of choice was the Rocabella Resort and Spa. The staff was most accommodating. After check-in we were given a tour of the grounds, while another associate took our bags to the room. Our room was absolutely amazing. prior to entering our room there was our very own private patio with a small table and 2 chairs, a padded area to lay out and sun bathe, and our very own mini plunge pool. The room had a rustic feel, but yet cozy. The main floor had a king size bed, and the upstairs loft a queen size bed. Each night there was a turn down service with chocolate left on the pillow.

There was a trail in front of the hotel which can be used to walk to Fira or Oia. Although the trail takes you on a beautiful scenic route to these towns, it will be about a 45 minute walk to Fira in one direction, and in the other direction about a 2 hour walk to Oia. If you don’t want to take the walk, the hotel will provide transportation for a small fee to either of the towns.

There are many excursions you may take as well while in Santorini. Take a semi-private boat tour, a wine vineyard tour, or a tour of the island and it’s volcano.

Where to Eat

I highly recommend that you have a meal at Argo restaurant in Fira. The ambiance and the view of the sunset was beautiful, but most important of all the food was delicious. I had a spicy curry chicken dish that was yummy to my tummy. Just up the stairs from Argo and around the corner to the right is a great gelato place for a light dessert.

If Santorini is not already on your bucket list, put it there now, because it is a must see before you leave this earth.
